‘Worried about my daughter’

Singer Palash Sen mulls action against those who ‘framed’ him

Musician Tatva Kundalini defended Palash Sen, who was accused of making sexist remarks at a fest at IIT-Mumbai, by writing: ‘I think all the people speaking against him have forgotten singing along to Maaeri during their college days.’ And when the singer recently performed at Hyderabad’s City of M, the audience were those who sang along to the songs.

In the city for Euphoria’s “first ever music fest performance”, the front man is still dealing with the row.

As a protective father, Palash is particularly worried about his 10-year-old daughter, who doesn’t understand what’s really going on. “My daughter is the one worst affected by this. She is just 10 and cannot understand the accusations against her father. She sees me the way I am at home and cannot relate to what she hears on the news. But on a positive note, I am counting on this experience to teach her a few life lessons,” he says.

Palash is very clear about bringing to book those who have ‘framed’ him. “I am a middle-class man. As Arvind Kejriwal points out it’s a bigger crime to tolerate injustice done to you,” Palash asserts. The singer also reveals details of the action will emerge after Thursday (January 2).

The row was sparked off by a student’s blog post, in which Palash insists that he was misquoted by ‘cowards’. “I myself stay away from social media. I am not on Twitter or Facebook. And people who write comments online are just cowards who want to malign people’s images. The worst part is that my wife and mother were also dragged into this,” he laments.

But the row hasn’t dampened or slowed down Euphoria’s musical pursuits. On to the band’s plans for the coming year, Palash shares, “On January 26, we’re releasing a new song called Walk on. The video encourages people to walk or take public transport to minimise the use of vehicles. This is also the third video that Palash has directed, and says it was particularly challenging as it involved nearly 200 amateur actors. “Last year, we focused on the girl child in a video titled Main Hoon. It’s ironic now with the current allegations, “ he laughs, adding, “But Walk on was a new experience because I had to direct around 200 people from various walks of life with absolutely no experience in acting,” he says.

The singer, who also practices as a doctor, has a few simple words of advice: “Limit the things you do in life and you will be good at them. I don’t have a life apart from music and medicine.”
