Veterans on the way out

Bifurcation move proves to be political Waterloo for many in Krishna.

Vijayawada: The year 2013 forced several senior politicians of the Krishna district to retire.

Already some politicians have announced retirement and some of them planned to retire from politics after three decades of their long political journey. Similarly, some of them are planning to contest as a last resort in the forthcoming elections.

As per the present developments, several senior Congress leaders are planning to retire from politics due to state bifurcation development and as well as there being no chance of getting a ticket from other political parties.

The situation seems like the Congress is losing its past prominence in the region following the state bifurcation issue and senior leaders of the party are opting to retire.

However, several important senior leaders like former ministers Mandali Buddha Prasad and Pinnamaneni Venkateswara Rao are not interested to contest in the forthcoming elections.

Buddha Prasad had officially announced his retirement from politics.

He represented three terms from the Avanigadda Assembly constituency. His father late Mandali Venkata Krishna Rao had also worked as a state minister in the past.

Buddha Prasad announced his retirement to oppose the state bifurcation decision of the Congress-led UPA government.

Similarly, now the debate is going on about former minister Devineni Rajasekhar’s (Nehru) political career.

Some rumours are doing rounds in the political circles that Nehru may retire from politics for his son’s political entry but some of his followers are not accepting it.

But he has already pushed his son Devineni Avinash into the political fray. Actually, Nehru played a dominant role and he was the only leader to be elected five times to the Assembly from Krishna district

Earlier, he had been elected consecutively for four times on the Telugu Desam ticket and after the demise of NTR, he joined the Congress and was elected for one term.

But Nehru’s close associates are saying that he would contest in the forthcoming elections as a last attempt before his retirement.

Former minister Pinnamaneni Venkateswara Rao is also taking a similar step. He entered politics as not only a staunch loyalist of the Congress but also as the son of former ZP chairman late Pinnamaneni Koteswara Rao.

Now, he is completely confined to agriculture and cooperative bank activities and expressed his disinterest to contest to his followers.

In the same manner, the Telugu Desam may withdraw the candidature of three-term elected Gannavaram MLA Dasari Balavardhana Rao.

Already, the TD state leadership made several steps to elect him as chairman of the Krishna Milk Producers Cooperative Producers Society.

But, Balavardahana Rao also requested the TD to give him a final chance to contest from the Gannavaram constituency.
