LDF ends Cliff House siege, public protests against CM
Thiruvananthapuram: Sensing public resentment, the LDF on Sunday called off the Cliff House blockade demanding the resignation of chief minister Oommen Chandy in the solar case.
It is learnt that the decision was the fallout of the public support received by homemaker Sandhya Suresh for her outburst at the LDF protesters and the police, who blocked her way recently during the siege.
The LDF meeting also decided to stop the strikes called in connection with the solar scam, including waving of black flags against the chief minister.
The LDF MLAs will not boycott the chief minister’s public functions in future.
The Opposition would raise the issue in the Assembly at every available opportunity, LDF convener Vaikom Viswan said.
He told reporters that the LDF decided to call off the strike as the front had to concentrate on the Lok Sabha poll preparations.
“We will not permit the chief minister to run away from answering questions on the issue once the session is convened on January 3,” he said.
He brushed aside the allegation that the LDF acted because of the criticism against its agitations.
