CM declares Pachalam Railway over-bridge is with DMRC
Kochi: Chief Minister Oomen Chandy put the official stamp on the proposal to entrust the Pachalam rail over bridge project to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
Inaugurating the reconstructed north rail over bridge here on Sunday, Chandy said that the cabinet would give a formal nod within a couple of days.
The Pachalam Bridge would be constructed as part of the Metro Rail preparatory works. The Chief Minister said that the project would be executed under the leadership of DMRC principal advisor Dr. E Sreedharan.
“Completion of the North RoB in a record time is a big achievement. The support extended by the public in surrendering their land hastened the Metro Rail project works. The State Cabinet has been taking unanimous decisions on various developmental projects,” the Chief Minister remarked.
The state missed several mega development projects in the past due to the lack of joint efforts. The state government is putting in maximum efforts to realize some of the mega projects including Kannur airport, and Vizhinjam soon. The National Waterway will be commissioned within a few weeks, added Chandy.
Delivering the presidential address, the minister for public works V.K Ebrahim Kunju said that when infrastructure projects were being entrusted to DMRC, the PWD officials and contractors in the state were gaining a new work culture.
Union minister Prof. K.V Thomas, ministers K. Babu, Aryadan Muhammad, MLAs Hibi Eden, Dominic Presentation, Charles Dias MP, Mayor Tony Chammany, GCDA chairman N. Venugopal, DMRC managing director Mangu Singh, Kochi Metro Rail Limited managing director Elias George and district collector P.I Sheikh Pareeth also attended. Later, the CM laid the foundation stone for two GIDA bridges at a separate function.
