'Dhoom 3' enters Rs 200-crore club

'Dhoom 3' continues to break records

It was hardly surprising to see that the audience didn’t turn up in the theatres to watch 'Mahabharat'. The film had a small release, especially because 'Dhoom 3' continued to rake in large numbers in single screens as well as multiplexes. So the 'Mahabharat' collections remained negligible over the weekend. The reviews were average too. While the idea of using superstar voiceovers was impressive, the poor animation marred its prospects.

Meanwhile, 'Dhoom 3' continues to break records. After the biggest opening day ever, it went on to score the fastest Rs 100 crore in three days. Later, it continued to score quite heavily during weekdays, with the Christmas holiday taking the collections to their peak. In the first week, the collections were a staggering Rs 179 crore, the highest in the history of Indian cinema. By the time the second weekend ended, 'Dhoom 3' had comfortably crossed the Rs 200-crore mark.

That the film isn’t a critic’s favourite, doesn’t seem to matter to the aam junta. From this point on, the next target would be to gain an entry into the Rs 250-crore club.
