Hyderabad Metro trials to begin in 2014
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metro Rail project will be a reality in 2014. Hyderabadis would be able to see the world-class Metro trains moving on the elevated tracks between Nagole and Mettuguda from July 2014 as part of trial runs.
The Metro trains from Hyundai Rotem, South Korea, will arrive at Uppal depot by May 2014.
However, commercial operations would commence only from March 2015 and people would be able to travel by Metro trains from Ugadi, the Telugu New Year, in March 2015.
The construction of eight Metro Rail stations will also be completed by July 2015 along the stretch. Each station will be located at a distance of 1km.
“We will have trial runs for a period of 6-9 months. Initially, the trial runs will be conducted at the Uppal depot.
An 8-km test track has been laid at the depot for the purpose. The trains will be brought on to the elevated tracks by December 2014 and test runs will be conducted till last week of March before commencing commercial operations by March 30, 2015,” said N.V.S. Reddy, managing director, HMR.
Though the initial plan was to launch commercial operations from December 2014, Mr Reddy said it will be delayed by three months in order to conduct trial runs thoroughly to ensure safety and security of passengers.
