Cochin Rotary Club to quench thirst
Kochi: At a time when civic bodies and the Kerala Water Authority shirk their responsibility of providing drinking water on waysides through free public taps and even closing down existing ones, a private firm in association with the Rotary Club of Cochin Knights has come forward with a project to provide purified drinking water at important spots in Kochi city.
The first such drinking water dispenser has been installed at the Vilangadan Arcade premises of Aquasan Technologies Private Limited, opposite Modern Bread at Edappally, as part of the Amrita Jalam project.
Aquasan managing director Sudin John Vilangadan, who has taken the initiative to launch the concept, says that with the participation of private firms and clubs like Rotary and also the Kochi Corporation, more such dispensers could be installed at key points in the city to benefit the public.
“The machine costs Rs 40,000 and Aquasan is ready to give free maintenance. A firm which has space to install such a dispenser should provide it for free. Since the machine is automatic, water is automatically refilled and water charge on account of it will be minimal and for one month it needs only one unit power. It has the capacity to store 30 litres of water,” he said. One firm has come forward to provide free space to install the machine on Chittoor Road.
“It can also be installed at two-three points at Broadway and MG Road and also on the Kochi Corporation premises but space has to be provided,” said Sudin.
