Women’s education stressed by Justice Chalameswar
Rajahmundry: Supreme Court judge Justice Jasthi Chalameswar called upon women to pursue education and play an active role in politics in order to realise equality on par with men in all aspects.
Addressing a gathering at a seminar held on ‘Women-Constitutional Rights’ held under the aegis of Addepalli Sridhar Foundation here on Friday, the judge made a fervent appeal to the women to play a pro-active role in politics by casting their vote for women contestants and encourage others to vote for them.
He said, “In case no woman is contesting, one of you should rise to the occasion and contest in the polls.
This is the only way to help you realise your rights. Though the Indian Constitution has bestowed women with equal rights on par with men, they are unable to exercise them for varied reasons.
The voters are being influenced by several factors like money, caste, region and others and it is time especially for young women to rise to the occasion and make efforts to realise equality.”
Maintaining that the inequality between men and women in several aspects is narrowing down at present, the judge said that as women were denied education earlier, they lagged behind.
He called upon the women to pursue education as it would help them get employment and wealth. He appealed to the parents to give up the wrong notion of not to allow their daughters to pursue higher education presuming that it would be difficult to find a suitable groom for their marriage.
He called upon the younger generation, including men and women to find out what the nation needs and make efforts to help the women get equality with men.
Referring to the Article 14, he said that it provides equal rights to both men and women and added that Articles 15 and 16 provide equal opportunity in education, employment and also in property. He said that the Indian Constitution provided special rights and protection to minority communities to help them realise equality in the society. The judge laid stress for implementation of several laws in their true spirit to wipe out inequalities.
