Government pays attention as students are bee lining to other countries.
Nellore: A proposal to invite foreign universities to setup their institutions in India for the benefit of students is under active consideration of Government of India although there are some impediments for the move.
The government has been concentrating on the subject because the students are bee lining to other countries to pursue higher education.
Chairman of Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education L. Venugopal Reddy has disclosed this while taking part as chief guest at the inauguration of the three-day international symposium on “Environmental Pollution, Nutrition & Genetics” and a special symposium, “Cancer biology & therapeutics” here on Friday.
The symposium is being held under the auspices of Vikrama Simhapuri University.
Referring to lack of concern over environmental pollution in the society, he said that a subject on environmental pollution was introduced in the syllabus of graduate courses only after the Supreme Court directed to do so few years ago.
Expressing concern over students preferring professional courses, he alleged that jobless engineering graduates are being hired as lecturers in engineering colleges while referring to an observation made by Azim Premji, chief of Wipro.
“As per Premji, 25 per cent of students coming out of engineering institutions are immediately absorbed by the companies, 25 per cent are hired after giving special coaching, 25 per cent are joining M. Tech courses and remaining 25 per cent are on the roads and they are being recruited to teach engineering students,” Prof. Venugopal Reddy alleged.
He claimed that 60 per cent of patents registered across the globe are products of Indian scientists living in foreign countries.
Prof. G. Rajarami Reddy, vice-chancellor, who presided over the function set the tone and tenor of the symposium as he expressed his dismay at carcinogenic material and the individual rate of pollutants creating havoc to the living planet.
He dealt with the health effects that are self-exacted through bad addiction and extraneous means through the presence of toxic contaminants at a higher rate.
Prof. Jamboor K. Vishwanatha, dean, University Health Science Centre, Texas, USA, said the environmental scientists worldwide are at it to counter the pollution invading the genetic fabric of the population.
He dealt with various phenomena of the causes dealing a fatal blow to the human genetic fabric by the increased human activity, industrial expansion and competitive liberal economy.
Prof. K. Nagendra Prasad, registrar of VSU, Prof. M. Srinivasulu Reddy, convener, Dr. Y. Sunandamma, organising secretary, Dr. K. Narasimha Rao, joint secretary and Dr. Suja S. Nair were present among other delegates.
