State Budget may be rescheduled

State budget is likey to be reschedules due to crucial AICC meeting.

Thiruvananthapuram: The presentation of the state budget, scheduled for January 17, is likely to be rescheduled in view of the crucial AICC meeting to be held on the same day in New Delhi.

The budget session will be held from January 3 to February 12.

“The business advisory committee can take a decision on changing the date of budget presentation,” speaker G. Karthikeyan told reporters here on Friday.

Government sources said that since Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala and other senior Congress leaders from the state will have to attend the AICC meeting, the government may moot a change in the date of budget.

Meanwhile, Speaker G. Karthikeyan lamented the frequent disruption of the Assembly. During 2013, normal business of the House could be conducted only for 37 days. “After 40 days in 2004, it was for the first time that the House could be conducted only for fewer than 40 days in a year (37 in 2013).

This is a very upsetting trend,” he said. As per the present schedule, the Assembly session will begin with Governor Nikhil Kumar's address on January 3. There will be no sitting from January 9 to 16. The House will sit for 23 days. Speaker will convene a meeting of all parliamentary party leaders of January 1.
