Probe into signal bypass by train
Kochi: The Railways have constituted an inquiry into the incident in which the Chennai-Thiruvananthapuram Mail bypassed the danger signal at the Piravom road station on Thursday morning. Sources in the railway said that the result of the inquiry will be known within a couple of days.
A team led by senior divisional operations manager, senior divisional mechanical engineer, senior divisional safety officer and senior divisional signal engineer is conducting the inquiry.
A mishap was averted when the train stopped following a direction given from Trivandrum datalog. Otherwise it would have hit another train which was stationed at Piravom.
“The inquiry has been instituted to find out why the engine driver bypassed the danger signal,” said Ashok Kumar area manager of southern railway.
