Christmas spirit overwhelms
Visakhapatnam: Christmas was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety in the city on Wednesday.
Christians, dressed in their best and full of glee, thronged churches, which were completely decked up, for the morning mass.
People also decorated their homes and commercial establishments on the occasion.
People gifted goodies to their near and dear ones, held get-togethers and spent their time in joy.
As night descended bringing the temperature down, the churches were illuminiated.
Stars, representing the Star of Bethlehem, were hung at the homes of Christians, in the city.
Many churches also conducted evening mass. It was a day for families and friends to meet, greet and gift each other.
“After the morning prayers, we were visited by our relatives, who also gave us gifts. We baked a cake at home and will have a feast in the night with many delicacies,” said Samuel, 23.
Christmas is a religion of love and need not be limited to members of a particular religion or section of people, this was proved by students of Sri Satya Sai Vidya Vihar School. The entire school, including a temple on the campus, was decorated for the celebrations. The students sang bhajans followed by Christmas carols.
