‘No matrimony sites for me’

Aishwarya Sakhuja talks about her new role in TV seial 'Main Na Bhoolungi'.

Aishwarya Sakhuja talks about breaking her image as Toasty and donning a new role in 'Main Na Bhoolungi'.

After 'Saas Bina Sasural', you are playing the lead role in the show 'Main Na Bhoolungi'. How has the experience been?

It’s been an extremely fulfilling and amazing experience. This show is a little more challenging for me in terms of acting. But I love my character in 'Main Na Bhoolungi' as it is very different as compared to Toasty from 'Saas Bina Sasuraal'.

Please tell us a little bit about your role in the show, since you play a strong woman who fights against the evils of society.

I play Shikha — a simple and sweet college girl. Her parents get her married to a boy who is an ideal husband according to them. But he has a dark secret — his dreams are all about torturing and killing her. It’s a thriller drama with lots of twists. I wanted to break the Toasty mould I had created for myself in 'Saas Bina Sasuraal' and this role I think will help me do just that.

Your character gets married through a matrimony website in the show. What is your personal take on matrimonial websites?

I don’t believe in matrimonial websites. I would prefer to marry a person I love. I’m already in a relationship with Rohit Nag. He is a producer and director of ad films and films. There are no plans of marriage as of now but maybe after a few years, we’ll take our relationship forward with our parents’ blessings.

Of late there have been too many incidents of crime against women in the country. How do you think the medium of entertainment, especially television with its wide reach, can help fight this menace?

Crime against women has been happening for donkey’s years but it is now getting reported. It’s sad that women feel unsafe in India and fear reporting the crime. It makes me very angry to see how easily criminals go scot free and repeat their offence. This is because we don’t have harsher punishment or strict laws. I hope TV changes this.
