Ties with AAP splits Congress
New Delhi: Serious differences have surfaced in the Congress over its decision to extend outside support to the Aam Aadmi Party in government formation in Delhi.
Around 100 party workers voiced resentment by burning the effigy of CM-designate Arvind Kejriwal at the Delhi PCC office Tuesday afternoon. Shouting slogans against Kejriwal, they said the party should withdraw its support immediately, saying AAP leaders were using abusive language against its leaders.
Congress workers had also protested Monday against the party’s decision. Some of them even ransacked the party office. Many Delhi Congress leaders, including outgoing CM Sheila Dikshit, were totally opposed to an alliance with the AAP.
Her close confidant Ramakant Goswami even said the party should possibly reconsider.
A senior AICC general secretary, Janardan Dwivedi, also said the decision was “perhaps not correct”. He went on to add that “voters did not expect this from us”.
