Chandy, Ramesh Chennithala want more time from AICC
Thiruvananthapuram: KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala has sought more time to prepare the first list of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections though the AICC had sought an immediate list.
The discussions in this regard will first take place in Kerala which will be followed up in Delhi in January under high command supervision.
Chennithala, who called on Defence Minister A. K. Antony and AICC general secretary Mukul Wasnik, said the Congress leadership will hold discussions with the allies at Cliff House on January 3.
“We are yet to hold consultations with the UDF allies.
The Congress would love to contest in more seats. We will give a list to the AICC by the second week of January,” said Chennithala.
Chandy is expected to call on Antony and Wasnik.
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi has called a meeting of Congress Chief Ministers on Friday which will be attended by Chandy as well. Gandhi has asked the Congress-ruled states to implement the Food Security Act at the earliest.
Union Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies K. V. Thomas has also been called for the CMs’ meeting. He has also sought co-ordination between the government and PCCs.
Earlier, Chennithala said the controversy over the statue of former Chief Minister K. Karunakaran was unnecessary. Everyone had seen the statue and had not suggested any modification then, he said.
