Stone-pelting aimed at killing Chandy, says SIT
Kochi: The Special Investigation Team probing the attack on chief minister Oommen Chandy submitted before Kerala high court that the Left activists involved in the case allegedly attempted to kill Mr Chandy by pelting stones and inflicting injuries on him.
This is the first time the SIT is making such a submission before the court on the bail applications of DYFI activists who are accused in the case. Justice B. Kemal Pasha considered the bail pleas of DYFI Morazha village secretary K.T. Prashobh and DYFI Sreekandapuram block treasurer P.N. Rajesh, the 26th and 82nd accused respectively in the case.
According to SIT, Rajesh is an accused in more than 11 criminal cases. Rajesh went absconding immediately after the incident.
The police team opposing the bail plea argued that the accused even dared to attack the CM adversely affecting peace and tranquility in society.
They are politically influential and capable of threatening the witnesses and tampering with the evidence, it said. CPM Dharmadam local secretary N.K. Ravi, Dharmadam local committee member K. Purushothaman and several top local leaders were arrested in connection with the case.
