Abhinav Bindra takes gold, Vijay Kumar wins silver in final day

Bindra shot 208.9 to win gold in the 10 meter air rifle event.

New Delhi: Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra won the gold in the 10m air rifle event, while other star shooters enjoyed mixed results on the concluding day of the 57th national championships here on Tuesday.

Bindra, who was third in the qualifications, scored 208.9 points in the final round to push Army shooter Chavanke Ashok (204.3) to the second place. Another Olympian Sanjeev Rajput (182.8) of Indian Navy got the bronze.

Ravi Kumar of Air Force bagged the Champion of the Champions title in the air rifle event by defeating Rajput. Punjab shooter Ekambir Singh Mandi (616.8) clinched the 10m rifle men’s junior event. Uttar Pradesh’s Akhil Sheoran got the silver, and Harmanvir Singh Mansahia (614.3) also of Punjab, was third.

Pratik C. Borse of Maharashtra bagged the gold with 612.6 points in the youth category of the 10m air rifle, while the silver medal went to his team-mate Vinay-kumar S. Patil on 610.4 points. Haryana’s Prashant claimed the bronze with 608.8 pts.

At the 25m range, Pemba Tamang (583) of Army beat Olympic silver medallist Vijay Kumar (579) to the gold. Navy shooter Harpreet Singh (578) was third.
