MLAs to switch for better results

The Congress and Telugu Desam are facing problems of surviving in the general elections.

Hyderabad: The Congress and Telugu Desam are facing problems of surviving in the general elections in Telangana and Seemandhra respectively.

In Seemandhra, some Congress ministers and MLAs prefer YSRC and TD, while in Telangana, some of the TD MLAs prefer to join the Congress and TRS. In the wake of the state’s bifurcation issue, nearly 30 Seemandhra MLAs from the Congress and TD joined the YSRC. In fact, the Praja Rajyam headed by Chiranjeevi saved the government by merging it with the Congress.

In Telangana, around 10 MLAs from the Congress and TD joined the TRS. The Andhra bifurcation issue has, in a way, improved the chances of the TD in Seemandhra and the Congress in Telangana.
MLAs in both regions are banking upon the state bifurcation to join other parties. While some of them are waiting for the January 23 deadline when the Assembly will decide the fate of T bill, others are waiting for it to get passed in Parliament to change parties.

According to political pundits, YSRCP in Seemandhra and TRS in Telangana are hot favorites in the forthcoming general elections. Congress MLA from Seemandhra has joined in YSRC and TD MLA from Telangana has joined in TRS on Sunday.

According to sources, some TDP MLAs from Warangal, Mahbubnagar, and Rangareddy districts have expressd their willingness to join the Congress. In some other Telangana districts, TD MLAs are planning to join TRS.

Meanwhile, a senior Congress leader said, the MLAs from Telangana who wanted to join the Congress or TRS, were in a confusion on which party to opt for. Political speculators say TRS will merge with the Congress after the state got divided.

Hence MLAs think it better to join the Congress as the two would merge anyway in future. Even though the TD gave a letter to the centre in support of a separate Telangana state, it did not reach a close due to its dual policy.

In the next general elections, it seems, the TRS and Congress would be the main contenders in Telangana and YSRC and TD in Seemandhra.
