Doctor urges people to fight medical graft
Hyderabad: Dr Kunal Saha, who won a landmark compensation of Rs 11 crore for the death of his wife, which was caused due to medical negligence, urged people to fight against medical corruption.
In May 1998, his wife, 36-year-old Anuradha Saha, died after being wrongly diagnosed for an allergic reaction. She was administered an overdose of a steroid preparation called Depo-Medrol by the doctors at AMRI, Dhakuria, Kolkata. Dr Saha filed a case in the court. After a long and arduous battle, in 2009, the Supreme
Court found the doctors guilty. Dr Saha, who was in the city on Monday, held a seminar on medical malpractice, unethical behavior of doctors and how victims should react to situations like his. He said, “It took me 15 years of relentless fighting and I am now tasting the fruits of my labour.
Medical malpractice should be curbed and the medical fraternity should be made to act in a responsible manner.”
