Hyderabad: A spate of allegations pertaining to the allotment of projects to consultancies came to light during the 13th Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC)?general body meet on Monday. All corporators cutting across party lines alleged violation of tender policy while allotting work to a private agency.

A. Mahesh Yadav, council member and Somajiguda corporator alleged that “the tender procedure has not been followed before allotting the consultancy with works to study and assess various aspects. The one crore scam needs to be probed by the GHMC.” The corporators demanded a detailed report which commissioner Somesh Kumar agreed to submit the same within 10 days.

Hyderabad Mayor Majid Hussain passed a resolution stating the council’s need to examine the necessity of consulting agencies for various projects by spending huge amounts despite having a number of qualified engineers in the corporation.

“The chief engineer of GHMC should submit a detailed report on utilisation of consultancy agencies, expenditure incurred so far on different projects, in the next standing committee meet and also explain the necessity to engage consultancy services in forthcoming projects,” said the Mayor.
