Cops who do not file FIRs to face disciplinary action
Hyderabad: Justice C.V. Nagarjuna Reddy of the AP High Court on Monday directed the DGP to issue a circular to all police stations across the state to direct them that registration of FIR is mandatory and police officers avoiding the same would face disciplinary proceedings.
While imposing a fine of Rs 20,000 on Vizianagaram police for not registering a case, the judge directed the DGP to issue a circular and report compliance to the court after four weeks.
The judge was disposing a plea by T.V.G, Chandrasekhar challenging the inaction of the police in not registering a case till date despite his complaint in May 2009 at L Kota police station.
P.S.P. Suresh Kumar, counsel for the petitioner contended that in a recent direction of the apex court the police officer cannot avoid registering an offence and action must be taken against erring officers if information received by him discloses a cognisable offence.
The Vizianagaram police told the court that they had registered the case and prior to that they had conducted a preliminary inquiry into contents of the complaint. Expressing displeasure at the apathy of the police in registering cases, the judge said that the scope of preliminary inquiry is not to verify the veracity or otherwise of the information received, but only to ascertain whether the information reveals any cognisable offence.
State told to list 6 names for IAS
The Hyderabad bench of Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT?on Monday directed the state government to send names of six officials to the Centre immediately for selection of conferred IAS posts and also directed the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) not to finalise the selection till these six names reach them.
A bench comprising Justice P. Swaroop Reddy and Ranjana Chowdary, member administration was dealing with petitions by I. Srinagesh (deputy commissioner, commercial taxes), L. Sridhar Reddy (district panchayat pfficer), R. Amarendar Kumar (executive director, AP Tourism Development Corporation), P. Srikrishnaveni of the transport department, D. Srinivasa Nayak and Rajkumar Ohatker, general managers of the AP Industries department.
The petitioners challenged the non-inclusion of their names in this year’s selection process. They said that six vacancies arose this year and the state has to send 30 names of eligible officers from various departments to the UPSC in the ratio of 1:5.
Writ filed against Cyberabad top cop
A writ petition was filed in the AP High Court on Monday seeking to declare as illegal the action of the Cyberabad police commissioner in not taking action over a case registered at Kukatpally police station.
A. Sarada Kamala Kumari moved the plea alleging that she lodged a complaint against her tenant for not paying rent and not vacating the premises in July 2013, but the police refusing to take action till date.
