With New Year celebrations around the corner, top police officers met representatives.

Chennai: With New Year celebrations around the corner, top police officers met representatives from star hotels and resorts that organise parties during the season, calling for an incident-free time.

Around 80 representatives from various organisations attended the meeting, headed by city police commissioner S.George, on Monday.

According to an official release, hotels organising cultural programmes will need permission to do so. These will have to start at 6 pm on December 31 and end by 1 am on New Year’s Day, the organisers making sure that the shows took place in a decent manner.

Keeping previous accidents in mind, the organisers of New Year parties should make sure they do not erect any temporary structures or stages over swimming pools, and they could do so only after obtaining valid certificates from the authorities concerned, a senior police official said.

Organisers have also been told not to allow guests to drive vehicles in an inebriated state and to make cab services available to them.

Elaborate security arrangements have been made to prevent incidents of drunken driving, with special to be formed to apprehend the culprits, the police said.
