Siddaramaiah has big plans for Mysore: MP

Adagur Vishwanath says huge investment planned in civic infrastructure.

Mysore: The cultural capital of the State, Mysore, also known as the tourism hub and the Heritage City, is witnessing extensive programmes for systematic and comprehensive development in the next five years.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah who hails from Mysore, has assured that funds should not be a constraint to meet that goal and is personally monitoring all developmental aspects of Mysore, revealed Mysore MP Adagur H. Vishwanath.

Starting from making the city slum free to ensuring basic amenities in all new layouts by bringing them under the Mysore Corporation to health care, tourism, conservation and restoration of heritage structures, development of Industries and expansion of connectivity, tall are part of this agenda, Vishwanath said.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, he said, with Rs 1250 crore funds under JNNURM phase 2 and Rs 200 crore coming from the state budget allocation for the financial year, Siddaramaiah wants to ensure proper drinking water facilities in Mysore district as a first priority, Vishwanath said.

He added that there are programmes to make the city slum free through Rajiv Awaz Yojana, wherein 6000 houses will be built for the poor. “We are set to review the Master plan-2031 for Mysore with a team including urban development experts, public representatives and others. We want to ensure that all new layouts have basic amenities. And no houses will be demolished in revenue layouts,” he assured.

When asked why more than 200 heritage structures have not yet got the tag, Vishwanath, said previous governments have failed to come up with a separate law to identify heritage structures. “We are planning a law which will fetch us funds from UNICEF for conservation of heritage structures,” he said.

On tourism, he said a a separate Zonal Tourism Authority is planned for Mysore, Hassan, Coorg, Mandya and Chamarajnagar. “We have plans to come up with a Dasara Authority by next Dasara so that specialists will take care of the Dasara show,” he said. When asked about the IT sector and industrial growth, he said the land acquisition for railway track doubling is over and the project is nearing completion as also land acquisition for Mysore airport.

Also the land acquisition process for the expansion of Mysore airport is also done. With this the connectivity will improve and would give more scope for investment. There are plans to set up Mysore Agenda Task Force, like the one we had during S. M. Krishna’s government which will give suggestions regarding the development of Industries and other sectors, he said.

There are plans to come up with more hostels for women, KR Hospital will be getting a 1000 bedded hi-tech hospital, city is getting funds for developing it as solar city on pilot basis. With funds being no constraint with Chief Minister being the son of the soil by next five years we will see that no stones are unturned to see Mysore at the International arena with all comprehensive systematic developmental measures, he said.
