Congress, BJP won’t win majority, says Gowda

Deve Gowda, former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader.

Thiruvananthapuram: Deve Gowda, former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader, has said that projecting Rahul Gandhi as prime ministerial candidate by the Congress and Narendra Modi by the BJP will not help them secure a majority in the Lok Sabha elections. Gowda, en route to Kanyakumari, was addressing a press conference here.

He urged the regional parties to form a third front as the people would prefer an alternative. “The Congress is projecting Rahul Gandhi and BJP Narendra Modi as prime ministerial candidates. It is the fundamentalist elements who are in favour of Modi. But the question is not who will become the Prime Minister, but who will provide an effective alternative to the people,” he said.

He opined that the regional parties should come under a common platform to discuss the policies and programmes of the third front as this was the right time to unite. The people would welcome those parties which have proper policies and programmes.
