Memorial for last Wadiyar, mother and aunt planned

The late Mysore royal scion, Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar had wished.

Mysore: The late Mysore royal scion, Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar had wished to build a memorial for his mother Tripura Sundari Ammanni and his aunt Sathya Prema Kumari at Manuvana, the cemetery of royal family. However, this had remained unfulfilled.

Now, with his sudden demise, the royal family plans to fulfill his wish by erecting a monument for the royal ladies and also one for him, as is the customary, at the Khas Brindavan in Manuvana. His mortal remains were consigned to flames at the Manuvana.

Sources close to the family said that the three memorials planned will be built adjacent to Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar memorial, to ensure the whole family rests in peace in the same square of land. Maharani Pramoda Devi will decide on various modalities like how big the memorials should be and the design aspect, after the completion of final obsequies on December 22.

Srikantadatta’s father Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar had two wives — Sathya Prema Kumari and Tripura Sundari Ammani. Both of them died in the same month — November in 1982 in a span of 15 days.
Srikantadatta Wadiyar alone conducted all the final rites for both his mother, Tripura Sundari Ammanni and aunt Sathya Prema Kumari.

He wanted to construct a memorial for both of them, but could not do so due to various reasons. Sources said there are about 35 memorials at Khas Brindavan belonging to members of Mysore royal family, of which the Mummadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar’s memorial stands out located right at the entrance.
