Ranveer-Arjun, the new Jai-Veeru
With the theatrical promos of 'Gunday' coming out a good couple of months before its release, the camaraderie between Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor is already being noticed and piquing audience attention. The Ranveer-Arjun dosti is, in fact, being treated as the main selling point of the film.
“The reference points were films like 'Sholay', Dharam Veer and Ram Balram. Actors like Amitabh BachÂchan, Dharmendra and Jeetendra have been in some stellar ‘bromances’. Since 'Gunday' is set in the ’70s and the ’80s, director Ali Abbas Zafar wanted to reflect that spirit,” said a source connected to the film.
For Ali it was challenging indeed, considering he was also shifting genres (from romcom Mere Brother Ki Dulhan to action drama 'Gunday').
“I have grown up on the likes of Ram Lakhan and Karan Arjun. 'Sholay' was a definite reference point but so was 'Yaraana',” he says.
“The whole idea in making 'Gunday' was to bring the right feel of friendship,” says Ali. “There is a difference in the way friendship is expressed in urban areas and the interiors. If you meet someone who is very rooted, earthy, they might make statements like, ‘Main tere liye jaan bhi de doonga’. It may sound unbelievable, but it happens.”
“When people say that the promo reminds them of Jai-Veeru or Karan-Arjun, it makes me glad,” he adds.
