Hyderabad: Man uses LinkedIn to con jobless
Hyderabad: The sleuths of the cyber crime police, Cyberabad, arrested a fraudster for cheating unemployed youth to the tune of about Rs 12 lakh. He used social networking as a medium and contacted the victims using LinkedIn profile. He promised them jobs abroad and later cheated them by sending fake offer letters and showing duplicate visa papers.
The accused, Bhogireddy Bhaskar Rao, 46, is an employee of a private firm. He is a resident of Dayanad Nagar.
According to D. Prathap Reddy, assistant commissioner, cyber crime, Cyberabad, Rao, along with another accused in the case, who is yet to be arrested, targeted unemployed youth. He created a LinkedIn profile, which is a social networking site used by professional people.
“He came into contact with the victims through the social networking site. Venkata Raman Murthy, the complainant and other unemployed youth in Suraram Colony, Jeedimetla, were trapped by him. Rao promised them jobs abroad in various reputed firms,” Reddy said.
He promised the victims jobs in George Weston Limited Company in Toronto, Canada, and collected lakhs of rupees from each of them for the offer letters and visas. The victims, who believed him, deposited the required amount into his account as instructed.
After that, Rao cheated them by sending fake offer letters and showing duplicate visa papers.
The victims, who realised that they had been cheated, lodged a complaint. Based on the complaint, the cyber crime police started investigating and nabbed the accused. He confessed to the crime during interrogation. He was remanded to judicial custody.

Hyderabad: A former manager of a pharmaceutical company at Madinaguda allegedly stole the important source codes of the company to set up another firm at Visakhapatnam.
The accused, Mamidi Vasudeva Rao, 43, a former employee of SIGACHI Industries Private Limited, had transferred the source codes and important productions formulae to his private storage devices and emails before he resigned from the company.
Cyberabad cybe crime police arrested Rao, a resident of Kukatpally. “He used to handle vital information about production. He transferred the important data through his email and other storage devices without the knowledge of his superiors,” said cyber crime ACP, Pratap Reddy.
After quitting the job, Rao floated a new company similar to the previous one. “He registered the company in the name of his wife and started the initial process at Visakhapatnam. Meanwhile SIGACHI Industries owners got suspicious, and they lodged a complaint with cyber crime police,” said the ACP. A case has been booked under Sections 66 and 72 of IT Act.
