Bangalore ATM attack victim Jyothi discharged
Bangalore: Jyothi Uday, the victim of brutal ATM kiosk attack was discharged on Saturday, after a month-long treatment at BGS Hospital for gruesome injuries on her skull and face inflicted by an assailant, who is still at large.
Recounting the horror, which was also captured by the CCTV cameras and aired by TV channels, the 44-year-old manager of Corporation Bank said, “I was on morning shift on Novermber 19. I went to the Corporation Bank ATM at the Corporation circle, where I used to frequent.” Jyothi was perplexed when she noticed a man entering the ATM kiosk and pulling down the shutter. She mistook that he had come to load cash in the ATM, little knowing about his evil intent.
He whipped out a machete and gun from his bag and said, “Don’t scream or I will kill you. I was not scared then. I told him I was withdrawing money for my daughter’s fees,” Jyothi said. “Within a minute he caught me by the neck, hit me hard with the machete several times. I fell unconscious. I could see him leaving the kiosk and pulling down the shutter. I was inside the ATM maybe for 3 hours,” she added.
“I could hear voices of people outside. I began to scream ‘help me’. Then I realised I couldn’t move my right side and was lying in a pool of blood. I used my left hand to crawl towards the shutter to bang it. Slowly the shutter opened,” said an emotional Jyothi, who broke down several times while recalling the incident.
“It was a very agonising time for me. Doctors have helped me recover to my present condition. I also wish to thank those two persons who put me in an autorickshaw and took me to the hospital,” Jyothi added.
