AP offices get power bill due date

The government departments, with pending electricity bills totaling to Rs 2,000 crore.

Hyderabad: The government departments, with pending electricity bills totaling to Rs 2,000 crore, have been directed to pay the bills by the end of February 2014, or face disconnection.

The directive was issued by chief secretary P.K. Mohanty during a high-level review meeting of the energy department, held on Saturday.

Among the top defaulters are irrigation department, panchayati raj, municipal administration, Water Board and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.

A total of 15 departments are having pending bills, which along with their arrears, are close to Rs 2,000 crore. Though similar notices were served earlier, not much has happened.
