New Delhi: Qualifier Shriyanshi Pardeshi of Air India created a flutter, ousting former national champion and eighth seed Trupti Murgunde on the opening day of the 78th ATS senior national badminton championship at the Siri Fort Sports Complex here on Friday. Shriyanshi won 2117, 21-18 in the women's singles second round.
The 17-year-old's superior net play helped her get past Trupti, and she will now face M. Aruna of Pondicherry.
In other matches, pretournament favourites P.V . Sindhu and defending men's singles champion P. Kashyap had easy third round outings.
World championship bronze medallist Sindhu needed just 12 minutes to pack off Jaisy Bridgette 21-3, 21-15, while Kashyap thrashed Tejan Fallary 214, 21-7 in 14 minutes.
