Proceedings against doc get HC nod
Kochi: Kerala high court on Friday permitted the Thrissur fast track court to go ahead with the proceedings initiated against Dr A.K. Unmesh, assistant professor at Thrissur Government Medical College, for providing false evidence during the trial of Soumya murder case.
A division bench comprising Justice T. R. Ramachandran Nair and Justice B. Kemal Pasha passed the order while dismissing an appeal filed by Unmesh challenging the proceedings initiated by the Thrissur Sessions Court against him.
The Sessions Court had directed the authorities to file a complaint before the Magistrate Court concerned against Unmesh. The court had found that he had falsely deposed before the court, contrary to the evidence tendered by the prosecution witness.
During the trial, Unmesh deposed that he had conducted the post-mortem of Soumya, and not Dr Sherly Vasu, head of the Forensic Department. The court, while delivering the verdict in the murder case, directed the police to register a case against Unmesh for taking a stand that was favourable to the accused.
The court also observed that he failed in his duty and breached service rules. Special Public Prosecutor A. Suresan submitted that Unmesh had intentionally deposed before the trial court falsely while being examined.
