Prime Minister to review Krishna share

Delegation meets PM, submits memorandum on Tribunal verdict.

Hyderabad: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday agreed to the state’s request for a detailed study on the implications of the Brijesh Kumar Tribunal award on the Krishna waters.

Dr Singh was responding to a request made by a delegation of all political parties from the state, led by Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, in New Delhi.

The delegation thanked the PM for his spontaneous response, stated the Chief Minister’s Office in a press release.

Submitting the memorandum, the CM said, “Keeping in view all the precarious situations and further sufferings burdened by the Tribunal, we, the representatives of all political parties of AP in one voice… request the Centre to intervene.” He said that the decision of the Brijesh Kumar Tribunal had the potential to inflict immense injury upon the state of Andhra Pradesh and adversely affect the entire country.

The CM also said that the all-party delegation had requested the PM that the Centre implead in the Supreme Court case in support of AP.

Referring to the methodology of calculating dependability, Reddy said that the Tribunal had distributed waters at different levels of dependability (75 per cent and 65 per cent) against the national norm of 75 per cent, and against the recommendations of the Second Irrigation Commission that farmers should be assured of water in three out of four years.

The CWC also clears projects planned only on 75 per cent dependability, which is a national norm. None of the Tribunals in India have distributed river waters at different levels of dependability, the CM said.

Ministers A. Sudarshan Reddy, K. Jana Reddy and K. Parthasarathy, TD leader Kodela Siva Prasada Rao, YSR Congress leader Ummareddy Venkateswarlu, CPM state secretary B.V. Raghavulu and TRS leader Vinod were part of the delegation.
