Panel zooms in on Hussainsagar polluters
Hyderabad: The sewerage outlets of most the 10 establishments set up around the Hussainsagar empty into the lake polluting the water. Eat Street, Water Front, Sailing Club and Hyder-abad Boat Club were found letting their liquid and solid waste into the lake few months ago, stated the Water Board officials.
The Buddha Purnima Project of the HMDA has warned all the establishments to divert their sewerage lines and asked them to construct sumps within their premises.
So far, only the Hyderabad Boat Club has constructed the sump, while the others are working on diverting their outlets. The establishments around the Hussainsagar include Jal Vihar, Eat Street, Lumbini Park, Sanjeev Anjaneyolu temple, police station, Youth Hostel.
“During inspection, we found that the sewage from Sanjeev Anjaneyolu temple, Hyderabad Boat Club and Water Front were being let into the lake; the pollutants included liquid and solid wastes.
Every day, two tractors had to make several trips carrying the solid waste to the temporary dumpyard. In a meeting conducted by BPP, we had asked these firms to immediately divert the outlets or construct sumps,” said R.P. Khajuria, member, environment, BPP. He said, the establishments had agreed to divert their lines and the Boat Club had constructed a sump as well.
