Hill Palace to get a facelift
Kochi: The Hill Palace Museum in Trippunithura, Kochi, a landmark in the annals of Kerala history, is all set to get a 21st century touch up.
According to officials, a central aid of Rs 6.90cr has been sanctioned towards renovation and conservation of artifacts in a more scientific way. The process, which was set rolling on Wednesday, envisages a remodeling of its galleries and restoration of damaged infrastructure.
“The proposal envisages the setting up of a scientific display system and a reference library in the museum. A grant of Rs 2.5 cr has been received in this regard and the project will be executed by the Keralam Museum - a government undertaking’’, said Dr. Premkumar, Museum director.
Besides, works have been awarded for the construction of an information-cum-reception centre at a cost of Rs 14 lakhs and it will be completed within three months.
The official residence of the erstwhile Kochi rulers, the Hill Palace is the first heritage museum in the state.
Built in 1865, it stands as a figurative testimonial to traditional Kerala Architecture and consists of 49 buildings.
The museum displays 14 categories of objects including the crown and ornaments of the Cochin royal family.
