Uttamnagar bridge to ease Safilguda traffic
Hyderabad: To the relief of motorists who regularly get caught in long traffic jams at the Safilguda railway crossing, the GHMC, along with South Central Railway, will construct a road under-bridge at Uttamnagar at a cost of over Rs 18 crore.
Though initially the construction of a bridge at Safilguda railway crossing had been proposed, the decision was changed following traffic studies, representations from residents and local MLA A. Rajender, all of whom were in favour of an under-bridge at Uttamnagar.
The standing committee of the GHMC too has approved the project at Uttamnagar.
“Another study will be taken up to study the traffic volume and need for a bridge at Safilguda crossing after the opening of the RuB at Uttamnagar, which is not far from Safilguda crossing,” said a senior official.
It may be mentioned that the state had accorded administrative sanction for construction of an RuB at Safilguda crossing at an estimated cost of Rs 31.12 crore.
The money required for the RuB at Uttamnagar will be spent from the amount sanctioned originally for the Safilguda RuB.
