Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam server glitch strands pilgrims
Tirumala: Thousands of pilgrims got stranded when the computer system of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams suffered a technical glitch on Thursday.
The servers became dysfunctional due to a technical glitch in the mother-board of the Electronics Data Processing wing at Tirumala leaving devotees stranded for hours.
As the computer systems stopped working at Tirumala on Thursday, thousands of devotees who came along with their families from across the world had to wait for hours at the room allotment counters.
The TTD administration was forced to halt the allotment of rooms, causing extreme hardships to devotees.
Meanwhile, other services like the issue of Arjitha seva tickets, '300 special darshan entry tickets, darshan tickets issued under the discretionary quota of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams JEO also came to a standstill.
The problems were not limited to inbound devotees. Devotees who vacated their rooms and got ready for their return journey also got stuck. Outbound devotees had to wait for several hours to get refunds of caution deposits.
After almost five long hours, the systems became functional later in the evening, much to the relief of the devotees.
Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams officials are, however, familiar with such glitches.
A top official said that although the TTD had a EDP wing, its functioning has been unsatisfactory leading to server crashes and failure of online systems frequently.
The negligence of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams brass in ensuring the effective functioning of the electronic data processing department came to the fore once again on Thursday.
