Karnataka votes differently: Yogendra Yadav

After Delhi show, 30,000 people enrolled online in AAP from Karnataka.

Bangalore: Aam Admi Party (AAP) is making a serious effort to gain entry into Karnataka. And true to its style, it has launched a state-wide survey to understand the rural aam admi, the farmer. AAP leader Yogendra Yadav disclosed this to reporters here.

"This morning I came to know that people from Karnataka topped the list of those who made donations to AAP. We have numerous people, working in different fields who came and worked for us during the Delhi elections. So, we consider Karnataka special for us," Yadav said.

According to Yadav, the AAP has launched a survey to understand the problems of peasants and voters in the hinterland. "We have not yet decided how many seats we have to contest and where ," Yadav said.

After AAP made a mark in Delhi, over 30,000 people from Karnataka have enrolled online and this was very significant, he said.

The AAP found a ray of hope in Karnataka because of the voting pattern in the state. "It is one of the wise states which has voted differently since 1984. The party preferred during assembly election was not backed for parliament. Therefore, we have hope of making a good beginning here," Yadav said.

What will AAP do to counter caste politics in Karnataka? " In Delhi, we fielded a Muslim where community voters accounted for less than three per cent. She lost by 600 votes. So, we are here to break the barrier and do politics of virtue. We will not indulge in caste politics" Yadav said.

After Delhi success story, AAP plans a big splash in Bangalore seats

Bangalore: After the stupendous debut in Delhi, Aam Admi Party's (AAP) next destination is Bangalore.

AAP is planning to establish itself as a strong political force but the question is, how far will it be able to replicate its success.

Swathi Ramanathan, co-founder of Janaagraha Centre for Citizenship and Democracy says, "There are two things to take note of; firstly, AAP was born out of the Anna movement. It raised its voice against the government’s actions. Secondly, AAP was involved with the common people and provided an alternative to people of Delhi. In all big cities, there is a kind of uprising brought about by AAP. However, we need to take into consideration the fact that Delhi has completely urban constituencies, whereas Bangalore is a mix of urban and rural seats. AAP will be a success in the some urban constituencies, but I am not sure about the rural constituencies."

Prof M.G. Krishna, VC of Karnataka State Open University felt it is too early to predict but added, "I honestly wish they succeed in Bangalore as well. Undoubtedly, the issues in Bangalore and Delhi are different. But corruption per se is visible in every sector.”

Sandeep Shastri, Vice Chancellor, Jain University says, "I am positive about AAP because of its phenomenal success in Delhi. I am pessimistic as well, because, AAP’s capacity to have an inspiring Bangalore based leadership is yet to be seen."
