In a first, AP BJP to resist bifurcation
Vijayawada: BJP leaders are now ready to oppose not only the Centre’s decision to bifurcate the state but also protest against the leadership of the ruling party.
Leaders of the region changed their earlier stand and have decided to stage protests and demonstrations against the bifurcation of the state.
As part of the plan, they will stage protests in Vijayawada and also burn effigies of the Congress high command and its leaders.
Even the local leadership is now changing its stand on Telangana.
Submit affidavits, Jagan to MLAs
Hyderabad: Cutting across party lines, YSR Congress chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy called upon MLAs to submit affidavits in favour of a united AP to President Pranab Mukherjee, who is in the city for his winter sojourn.
Speaking to the media at his residence on Thursday, Reddy said that affidavits given to the President will act as a deterrent to the undemocratic division of the state and it will serve the intended purpose, whether or not the Assembly takes up voting on the draft Telangana Bill.
“You should rise above party affiliations as this is the time to show your commitment for the cause of the state,” the Kadapa MP said.
Questioning the conduct of Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu and Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, he said that while the former has one foot in each region and keeps silent, the latter has been exposed in the manner in which he has cleared the Bill in 17 hours and sent it to the Assembly.
Criticising the “decayed” political system, 4Reddy said that the Parliament and Assembly have been adjourned sine die without taking up issues that concern the people. According to sources, the Seemandhra BJP leaders are reluctant to support the bifurcation until various issues related to the Seemandhra region are cleared.
The Seemandhra leaders demand that Hyderabad be announced as Union Territory and a clear picture be presented on the water sharing issues between the Andhra and Telangana regions.
The BJP leaders also demand that an announcement be made on revenue sharing as well as allotment of funds for educational institutions.
Meanwhile, while some national-level BJP leaders are supporting the Telangana issue, local Seemandhra leaders are planning to oppose it.
The BJP leaders will meet party national president Rajnath Singh by the end of this month in this regard. BJP Seemandhra leader Y. Raghunath Babu said that they would meet the party’s national leadership and request that the Telangana process be stalled until important issues related to the region are cleared.
