Drop charges, says Ratna Prabha

IAS officer defends her action before the court saying she was only following rules.

Hyderabad: IAS officer Ratna Prabha defended her action before the AP High Court on Thursday, contending that she had scrupulously followed the Business Rules and the Secretariat Instructions, and had never deviated as alleged by the CBI.

Justice V. Suri Appa Rao was hearing a petition filed by Prabha, seeking quashing of charges framed by the CBI against her in the illegal investments case of YSR Congress chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.

The CBI alleged that the official extended undue favour to Indu Tech zone Pvt. Ltd in the capacity of secretary of the Information Technology and Communications (IT&C) department.

Senior counsel H. Prahalada Reddy, arguing for Prabha, contended that the case against his client by the CBI was without jurisdiction and he was verifying the facts.

He said that his client’s duty was to implement the policy decisions of the government and not to go into the validity of the decisions of the Cabinet.

Reddy said that the CBI’s effort was only to implicate his client in the chargesheet to give some credibility to its version. He said that it had spared the then chief secretary T.K. Diwan despite the fact that the file had gone to him many times for approval.

The judge adjourned the case to December 26.
