BJP Workers ask leaders: when is Yeddyurappa rejoining us?
Bangalore: The indecision over re-entry of KJP leader B.S. Yeddyurappa has cast its shadow on preparations in the state unit of BJP for next year's elections to Lok Sabha.
Sources in the state unit told Deccan Chronicle that leaders are facing a piquant situation with workers quizzing them about the former chief minister's return at booth committee meetings.
"They are telling us that the party will benefit if Yeddyurappa joins the party," admitted a senior leader.
The sources said the leaders are not able to make up their mind on potential candidates as many Members of Parliament are either supporters of Yeddyurappa or of BSR Congress leader and former minister B. Sreeramulu.
For instance, Yeddyurappa's son B.Y. Raghavendra (Shimoga), G.S. Basavaraj (Tumkur), and Shivakumar Udasi (Haveri) are identified as supporters of the former chief minister while Sanna Fakirappa (Raichur) and J. Shantha (Bellary) have backed Sreeramulu's party in the recent Assembly elections.
Besides, some other MPs—G.M. Siddeshwar (Davangere), Ramesh Katti (Chikkodi), Suresh Angadi (Belgaum) and Janardhana Swamy (Chitradurga)-have indirectly backed Yeddyurappa.
Barring one or two of these MPs, the party seems keen to field them again in 2014, but a final decision would be taken only after central leaders take a call on Yeddyurappa's re-induction.
The upshot: the district election committees are yet to meet to recommend candidates for Lok Sabha elections. The state election committee would meet only after receiving lists from district committees.
