Strike hits Rs 100 crore bank transactions

Strike call given by United Forum of Bankers and the closure caused hardships to customers.

Nellore/Ongole: As many as 342 branches of nationalised banks in Sri Potti Sri Ramulu Nellore district remained closed as part of one day nation wide strike on Wednesday.

The strike call was given by United Forum of Bankers and the closure had caused hardships to the customers.

Transactions to the extent of Rs 100 crores were affected because of the strike, according to a bank official.

Bank employees staged a demonstration before the State Bank of India main branch at Barracks in Nellore.

They found fault with the policy of the government for offering licenses to the private banks.

They alleged that the move would lead to privatisation of all the banks in future.

They came down heavily against the centre for ignoring pay revision to the Bank employees.

As per the norm, pay should be revised once in five years but this was not done even though it is six and half years since last pay revision.

The employees also rebuked the government for lopsided reforms in the banking sector.

Bank customers faced innumerable problems due to one day strike by the employees of nationalised banks in Prakasam district.

The employees staged a protest in front of the State Bank of india main branch at Ongole.

They opposed the move to privatise the nationalised banks and demanded that all contract employees be regularised.

The employees also sought restoration of employment opportunities under compassionate grounds.

Flaying the banks for not appointing sub staff for a long time, employees demanded that the sub staff be appointed immediately.
