Recognition to new party raises doubts

It is rumoured that KKR may 'take over' an already registered party before the elections.

Hyderabad: The Chief Minister prefers using the cricketing metaphor, and is fond of saying “no match is over till the last ball is bowled”.

Since most Congress Seemandhra leaders believe that the Congress will not get any seats in Seemandhra, it makes sense to float an outfit that promotes Reddy’s known stand on keeping the state united.

It is also being rumoured that like Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister may “take over” an already registered political party before the elections.

There are no details on the official website of the Election Commission about the promoters of the Samikya Samiti Party and only an address is given: House No. 11-8-118/2 (Old) 11-8-99/84 (New) Narsimhapuri Colony, Astalakshmi, Hyderabad-Vijayawada Highway, Hyderabad.

The YSRC, which secured the fan symbol has two Lok Sabha members, including party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. It has 17 MLAs all of whom won in by-elections.

The YSRC hasn’t been recognised by the EC so far because it has only contested in bypolls.

Whether the YSRC will get EC recognition or not will be known only after assessing its performance in forthcoming elections.

For securing “recognition” a party has to secure eight per cent of the total votes polled in elections to the Assembly or Lok Sabha or should have secured six per cent seats in those polls and one seat for every 25 seats in the Lok Sabha from that state, or one seat for every 30 seats in the Assembly.
