Mohan Kumar guilty of third murder

Mohan Kumar administered cyanide to all his victims after sexual intercourse.

Mangalore: The fourth Additional District and Sessions Court on Wednesday found serial killer Mohan Kumar guilty of murdering Sun­anda, a resident of Sullia. This is the third case in which he has been found guilty. On Tuesday the court convicted him for murdering Anitha and Leelavathi.

Mohan Kumar is accu­sed of luring and killing 20 women by administering cyanide to them. His modus operandi has made infamous as ‘cya­nide’ Mo­han.

The serial killer allegedly administered cyanide to his victims after sexual intercourse. He would tell them that it was a medicine to prevent pregnancy. He wo­uld also rob the victims’ ornaments before fleeing.

On Tuesday, Judge B.K. Naik found Mohan guilty of murdering Anitha of Bar­i­maru and Leelavathi of Vamadapadau.

Anitha was his last victim and this resulted in Mohan’s arrest on October 21, 2009.

The killer took Anitha to Hassan on June 17, 2009 and stayed in a lodge.

The next day he administered cya­nide and her body was later found in the toilet of a KSRTC bus stand.

Similarly, he murdered Leel­avathi in Sep­t­ember 2005 at KSRTC bus stand in Mysore.

The hearing on the quantum of punishment will be held on Thursday.

Cheyabba Bea­ry, the special public prosecutor said that in both the cases Mo­han Kum­ar was proved guilty.

In Anitha’s case the lodge staff, who had seen Anitha with Mohan, gave their statement befo­re the court.

The handwriting exp­ert also concluded that the entry and the signature in the hotel register belo­nged to Mohan.

Anitha’s gold ornaments were recovered from two finance companies. In Leel­avathi’s case the police sei­zed her her jewellery from Moh­an’s second wife’s ho­use at Belma.

In Wedn­esday’s verdict, the court found Mohan guilty of murdering Suna­nda, who went to Mysore with him on February 11, 2008. The kill­er’s modus oper­andi was similar to earlier cases.

Mohan and Sunanda re­nted a room in Mysore. They went out and he poisoned her.

She was later found dead at KSRTC bus stand in Mysore. He rob­bed her jewellery and Rs 25,000 in cash from Sun­anda. The trial against Mohan began on November 21, 2011.
