Kochi: Let the carnival begin! That seems to be the spirit of Fort Kochi, which is set to host the 30th edition of the Grand Cochin carnival.
According to the organizers, preparations for the event are already on a roll.
The official inauguration of the festival, along with the flag hoisting ceremony will be held on December 22 and the flags of about 90 local clubs will be hoisted simultaneously at the venue.
“Apart from the local residents, a large number of people from all over the place will come down to participate in the carnival on New Year's Eve. The place has been spruced up.
Garbage and other accumulated waste from various parts of West Kochi have been removed’’, said K.J.Sohan, Town Planning Committee chairman.
Earlier last week, the authorities had convened a meeting of the various departments to assess the preparedness for the carnival and to ensure its smooth conduct.
The carnival this year is expected to provide a whole set of new experience, with the introduction of water walk, laser shows and a special carnival fair.
