Bank employees boycott duties in Karimnagar

Employees of state-owned banks boycott duties to protest against bank privatisation.

Karimnagar: Employees of various state-owned banks boycotted duties as part of one-day protest against privatisation of banks, seeking immediate revision of wages here on Wednesday, under the aegis of United Forum of Bank Unions (IFBU).

As a result, customers were forced to face problems in operating various financial transactions. K. Venkatesh, assistant general secretary of SBH staff association, alleged that Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) was adamant in addressing the issues of the employees.

“The IBA is issuing licenses to private banks and corporate houses including foreign banks indiscriminately,” accused Venkatesh and demanded stoppage of privatisation.

He sought the government to revise the wages to the employees under 10th Pay Revision Committee (PRC).
