4 killed, two hurt in 3 different mishaps in Tamil Nadu
Chennai: Four persons were killed and two others were injured in three accidents reported in the city on Wednesday.
Two friends, ChandraÂsekar, (28), a resident of SoÂuth Mada street, ThiruvÂottiyur, and Kumar, (25), a resident of Kaladipet, met with an accident on the Ennore expressway during the early hours of WeÂdnesday and died on the spÂot after the mini-van in whÂich they were travelling collided head-on with a container truck.
Around 12.30 am, the two were returning after offloading freight. When the van was near EllaiÂyamÂman koil road, a container truck, coming from the port, rammed into the van, killing both youths on the spot.
The WasheÂrmanpet police arrived at the spot, retrieved the bodies and sent them to the government Stanley hospital for autopsy.
Chandrasekhar was married and has a daughter, while Kumar was unmarried, the police said.
Later in the day, the police picked up truck driver Rakesh, 28, of Uttar Pradesh, who had abandoned the vehicle and fled.
In another incident, a father-son pair, residents of Royapettah, were on a bike headed towards T. Nagar, when the father lost control of the vehicle and rammed into a median on Peters road.
Kunj Ahamed (74) died on the spot while his son, Askar Ali, escaped with minor injuries. The incident happened around 4 am when they were on way to their fruit shop in T. Nagar from their residence on Kader Sahib street in Royapettah.
In yet another accident, around 8.30 am, TaniÂkamalai (30), a construction worker in MaduÂravoyal, was knocked down by a tractor on AlapÂpakÂkam road when he was on his bike with his friend Surendran (20) riding pillion.
Tanikamalai was heading to work with his friend and was not speeding.
But since the road was in a bad state, when the tractor, which was tailing them, knocked the bike down, TanÂikÂamalai came under its wheels and died on the spot, the police said.
His friend escaped with minor injuries, while the driver of the tractor fled the scene.
