I never wanted to act: Raj Tarun

Raj Tarun had aspired to pursue a career in direction but destiny made him an actor.

Tollywood aspirants spend years trying to break into tinsel town, but Raj Tarun 'accidentally' found himself facing the camera as leading man.

The 21year-old engineering student from Visakhapatnam has acted in 52 short films and dreamed of becoming a director. But producer Ram Mohan, of Ashta Chamma fame was adamant on casting him in the lead role for his next movie.

"When I met sir in Hyderabad, he said he was working on the script of 'Uyyala Jampala'. He asked if I was interested in playing the lead. Since I was not interested and wanted to be a director, he took me on as assistant director."

But Raj was eventually 'fooled' into being cast as the lead.

"The casting director asked me to enact a scene saying it would be a demo for those who came for auditions. I found out later, that it was actually my casting," explains Raj.

His co-star is Avika Gor, of 'Balika Vadhu' fame.

"On the first day, I thought she would be arrogant, so we did not speak to each other. But from the second day, we became friends," says Raj.

About the film, he adds, "It's set in a village and I play a guy called Suri. Avika and I are Bava-Mardhalu and the movie revolves around our relationship."
