ISB’s iDiya boost to social entrepreneurs

iDiya has grown to become a promising platform for dynamic entrepreneurs with a social bent from around the world to showcase their ideas.

Hyderabad: While there has been much noise about mushrooming start-ups, mostly in the technology sector, there is also a growing trend of social ventures across the country.

The motive of these social start-ups being giving back something to the society or bettering lives of people by providing different services. Helping fledging social businesses movement in India grow, the Indian School of Business (ISB) has been encouraging social entrepreneurs for the last five years through iDiya.

Conceived in 2009 at the Indian School of Business by the Net Impact Club of ISB, iDiya has grown to become a promising platform for dynamic entrepreneurs with a social bent from around the world to showcase their ideas.

“These partners not only mentor the entrepreneurs during the bootcamp held at ISB, Hyderabad, but also help them with the one resource most entrepreneurs feel drags them back in making their ideas big — the funds,” said Ridhi Gupta, marketing coordinator for iDiya.

According to the coordinators, the competition is not like any other college contest but something that gets entrepreneurs to direct take the plunge.

“This year’s iDiya received 450 applications from 16 states and 10 of among these were shortlisted for the boot camp,” Ms Gupta said.

While TinkerTank Technologies stood winners, Bodhi Health Education took the second place.

Making a mark among the 10 equally comeptitiive ventures, Tinker Tank’s development of a semi-automated ince-nse-stick machine to eliminate hard labour made the difference.
