Jung wins 'Champion of Champions' title in pistol event

New Delhi: Ace marksman Samresh Jung today won the 'Champion of Champions' title in pistol event after he defeated Shweta Chaudhary in the final round in the 57th National Shooting Championships at Karni Singh Ranges here today.

Jung shot 10.6, 9.9, 9.9 in the last and final round of 'Champion of Champions' while Shweta shot 9.5, 10.5, 8.7 in a tough competition.

Jung also collected a cash prize of Rs 25,000.

In the finals of 10m Air pistol men's event, Dharmendra Singh of Army won the gold in a very close fight with his own team-mate Jitu Rai. Dharmendra Shot 199.1 and Jitu shot 197.3 to win the silver, while Samresh Jung of CISF won the bronze with 186.5 points in the finals.

Kapil Kumar of Air force won the gold in junior category of 10m pistol men's event. He scored 578 points. Devendra Singh of Army scored 574 to win the silver while Arun, also of Army, claimed the bronze with 571 points.

At the 25m range, it was a day for Haryana shooters. Anita Devi of Haryana became the new champion of 25m sport pistol women's event. She gave a very good fight to Commonwealth double gold medalist Anisa Sayyed.

Anita gained eight points to win the gold while Anisa had to be satisfied with the silver with just two points.

In another final for third position, it was a fight between Maharashtra's Rahi Sarnobat and Sheoran Gauri.

Gauri won the bronze with eight points while Rahi could get only two points in the final and remained fourth.

Gauri Sheoran of Haryana also won the gold medal in the 25m pistol junior women's event with 574 points, while Chinki Yadav of Madhya Pradesh claimed the silver with 561 and Oshin Tawani of M P won the bronze with 558 points.
