Bangalore: The police, who have failed to get any leads on the ATM butcher, who is at large for almost a month, have increased the reward for information to Rs 5 lakh.

Earlier, the police had announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh to those who give information leading to the arrest of the ATM attacker. The announcement was made two days after Jyothi Uday, a manager with Corporation Bank’s Mission Road branch, was attacked inside an ATM kiosk near Hudson Circle on November 19.

As none of their efforts have yielded any result, the police have increased the reward amount and are distributing handbills with pictures and information about the accused in other parts of the state, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. The information is also being aired on Tamil, Telugu and Hindi news channels, the police said.

The police admitted that they have still not found the name and address of the accused. “During the investigation, it was found that he was involved in a murder case in Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh, but we have no other information. We also don’t have details of his antecedents,” the police said.

Around 200 policemen from the city are on the manhunt. “We are in constant touch with our counterparts in Andhra Pradesh. They are also on the lookout,” the police said.

On November 19, the attacker followed Jyothi Uday into the ATM and downed the shutters. He demanded money from Jyothi and when she refused, he threatened her with a pistol and then hit her on the head with a machete.

He took away her phone and ATM card. Before leaving the kiosk, he had rolled down the shutters and she was lying unconscious for more than three hours before the incident came to light.
